The Omaha Fire Department has confirmed that a body was found inside a car that went into the Missouri River on Sunday evening.

OFD Battalion Chief Coby Werner stated that the body has not yet been identified.

According to officials, witnesses saw a person inside the vehicle as it entered the river and did not exit. The Omaha Fire Department and Omaha Police Department have been investigating missing persons reports in connection with the incident.

Werner noted that current low water levels in the Missouri River made search conditions more favorable.

Authorities received a report about a white vehicle entering the river near NP Dodge Park just after 3 p.m. on Sunday. The search was suspended that evening due to fading daylight.

On Friday, Omaha police stated that investigators believe the driver died by suicide. The vehicle was not reported stolen.
