A fifth-grade student from Grand Island has won a statewide contest for her emotional artwork highlighting the issue of missing children.
The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office announced that Breckstynn Callihan was selected as the winner of the annual Nebraska Missing Children’s Day poster contest.
This year’s theme was “Bringing Our Missing Children Home.”
A Meaningful Message Through Art
Breckstynn’s winning poster features a touching illustration of two parents embracing as they grieve the loss of a missing child. On her contest application, she wrote that she wanted her artwork to be “emotional and forceful.”
Her poster will now move on to a national competition with the U.S. Department of Justice.
A Chance to Compete on a National Stage
The winner of the national contest will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C., along with their parents and teacher, to attend the annual Missing Children’s Day ceremony in May.
This competition provides an opportunity for schools, law enforcement, and child advocates to raise awareness about missing and exploited children while promoting child safety.
