Fire investigators have identified the cause of a house fire that occurred Sunday night in Omaha.

Around 8 p.m., Omaha Fire crews responded to a fire at a two-and-a-half-story home near 45th and Pine streets.

As firefighters arrived, they reported seeing smoke from Center Street, several blocks away. Officials confirmed that all residents had evacuated the house before crews arrived.

According to a report, firefighters initially battled flames on the exterior of the home but discovered that the fire had spread to the attic. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

Two residents were displaced due to the fire, which caused an estimated $77,000 in damage.

Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by smoldering charcoal placed too close to combustible materials.
