Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) is laying off 28 employees across the state, including four in Waterloo, 17 in Des Moines, and seven in Sioux City. The layoffs will take effect on March 28, according to Iowa Workforce Development.

Nonprofit Facing Challenges

LSI, a nonprofit organization that provides support for immigrant and refugee communities, informed affected employees earlier this week. The organization has not publicly commented on the specific reasons for the layoffs.

However, reports from KTIV in Sioux City suggest LSI has been impacted by the suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), which previously helped refugees legally settle in the country.

Nebraska News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
