Two men originally charged in the 2020 murder of Ebony King, a mother and small business owner, have been sentenced after reaching plea agreements.
Sentencing Details
Jerry Johnson, who was initially set to stand trial in April for first-degree murder, changed his plea to second-degree murder in January. He was sentenced Thursday to 90 years to life in prison, with credit for 765 days already served.
Anthony W. Triplett, also charged in the case, had previously changed his plea from first-degree murder to “no contest” for robbery in May 2023. His sentencing was delayed until after Johnson’s trial. When Johnson pleaded guilty, Triplett’s sentencing proceeded, and he was sentenced Thursday to 18-30 years in prison, with credit for approximately 3.5 years already served.
Background on the Case
King was killed on April 15, 2020, near North 25th Street and Hartman Avenue. The case led to multiple charges against Johnson and Triplett before both men agreed to plea deals, resulting in reduced charges and sentencing.
Clarification on Name Similarity
Authorities noted that another individual named Anthony Triplett has been reported in connection with other crimes. The Anthony Triplett sentenced Thursday is not the same person.
