A well-known winter destination in Pottawattamie County is preparing for changes as the season comes to a close.
Mt. Crescent Ski Area will soon wrap up operations for the season and reopen for the 2025-26 season with a new name and refreshed identity.
“Due to warm temperatures, this weekend is likely the last for skiing and snowboarding,” Pottawattamie Conservation announced Friday. “Sledding is still scheduled for next weekend.” Visitors are encouraged to check the park’s social media for updates.
This marks the final season for “Mt. Crescent” under its current name. When it reopens, the ski area will be known as Crescent Hill at Hitchcock.
According to Pottawattamie Conservation, the new name pays tribute to the ski area’s history—originally called Crescent Ski Hills—while also highlighting its year-round recreational offerings. The area includes Hitchcock Nature Center, a 1,500-acre public park with 14 miles of trails.
To celebrate the rebrand, the ski area is offering a special sale on season passes, with the lowest prices for the 2025-26 season available through March 31.
“With the area’s new focus on four-season recreation and conservation, we felt it was time for a name and identity that reflect that vision while keeping our strong ties to the Crescent community,” said Kylie Jacott, outreach manager for Pottawattamie County Conservation. “We’re honored to protect this special place while positioning it as a regional destination for sustainable outdoor recreation.”
Funding for the rebrand is being provided by the nonprofit Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation, with support from a Travel Iowa tourism grant for signage and video work.
