The Nebraska State Patrol has released the names of the suspect and victim in connection with Friday’s homicide in Clay County.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Heather Gray, and the suspect as 39-year-old Toby Gray. The two were married.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a home near Road Q and Road 322 in rural Harvard around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

When deputies arrived, they found a woman dead from a gunshot wound and a man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three young children were also inside the home at the time but were unharmed.

Investigators believe Toby Gray shot Heather Gray before turning the gun on himself. He was initially taken to Aurora Memorial Hospital and later flown to Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition, and troopers are maintaining custody of him at the hospital.

The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation. The children have been placed in protective care with family members.
