Children staying at Children’s Nebraska are receiving a little extra comfort thanks to Claire Davenport, a local high school junior on a mission to spread warmth and kindness.

Davenport founded the Healing Hugs Project last year, a nonprofit that creates colorful blankets and pillowcases for young patients.

A Personal Connection

Davenport understands the challenges of hospital stays firsthand. She has an autonomic nervous system disorder that requires weekly visits to Children’s Nebraska.

“When I was in the hospital, I received a pillowcase and a blanket and still have it to this day,” she said. “It made my room feel a little bit more like home.”

Inspired by that experience, she wanted to give back to other children going through similar situations.

Spreading Comfort Through Every Department

Her blankets and pillowcases are now making their way into all areas of the hospital, including the ER and infusion center.

“Something to make the room feel a little bit less like the traditional hospital,” Davenport said.

She designs them with comfy fleece fabric, making them not only easy to create but also fun for kids to use. Even young volunteers can help make them.

Next Delivery Coming Soon

Davenport has been working closely with Children’s Nebraska and plans to drop off her latest batch of blankets in the coming weeks.

For children facing medical challenges, her thoughtful gesture brings more than just warmth—it brings a sense of home.
