Omaha will welcome more than 500 cyclists on Saturday, May 17, for the Aksarben Tirc, a national race that is part of the USA CRITS series.

USA CRITS Executive Director Thad Fischer expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the event to Omaha.

“I was excited to come here,” Fischer said. “It’s a beautiful, clean city, and its central location makes it a great spot to bring riders from all over the country.”

Five-time national champion Ty Magner shared his excitement about racing in Omaha.

“I love riding my bike in a new city, exploring the area, and then actually getting to race downtown,” Magner said. “It’s just super exciting.”

Economic and Community Impact

Local officials expect the event to provide a significant economic boost.

“We’re projecting that this one-day event will generate over $1 million in spending for our local community,” said Visit Omaha Executive Director Deb Ward.

Trek Bicycle Omaha West store manager Robb Hiatt noted that large cycling events like this can increase business and encourage more people to participate in local rides, such as the Tuesday Night CRITS.

“Whether they choose to join a local race or just explore the many paved and off-road trails in the area, an event of this scale will have a huge impact on cycling in Omaha,” Hiatt said.

Encouraging More Cycling in Omaha

Omaha resident Murray Franz believes the race will inspire more people to get involved in cycling, including fundraising rides he helps organize.

“I think it will encourage people to get out, ride more, and enjoy the scenery,” Franz said. “There are a lot of great bike trails around Omaha.”

With national-level competitors and strong community support, the Aksarben Tirc is set to bring excitement and energy to Omaha’s cycling scene this May.
