A young boy was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a van in north Lincoln on Wednesday, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Emergency crews from Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to the scene at the intersection of 48th Street and Cornhusker Highway shortly after 4:30 p.m. Authorities noted visible front-end damage to a white van, and a shoe was seen lying in the street.

A preliminary investigation determined that the van was traveling westbound when it struck the juvenile, who was in the crosswalk, Officer Kate Schwenke reported. Police said the pedestrian signal displayed a “do not walk” sign, and the van had the right-of-way.

Following the incident, authorities temporarily closed southbound 48th Street just north of Cornhusker Highway, but the roadway has since reopened.

Nebraska News will provide updates as more details become available.
