Authorities say alcohol use was likely a factor in a single-vehicle crash that left one person dead after a pickup flipped and landed in Little Papillion Creek on Tuesday morning.

Omaha police identified the driver as Timothy A. Valentine, 47, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to the crash near Keystone Drive and Blondo Street shortly before 6:30 a.m. A 35-year-old female passenger was rushed to Bergan Mercy Hospital in critical condition, but her injuries were later determined to be non-life-threatening.

Investigators believe the Chevy Silverado had been traveling west on Blondo Street for several hours before a passerby discovered the wreck. Police say the driver apparently lost control, veered off the road to the south, crossed the Keystone Trail, and ended up in the creek.

Authorities also noted that failure to wear seat belts contributed to the severity of injuries in the crash.
